Cefadroxil
drug data and news
Cefadroxil drug data, resources, and news articles (when available). Onconews.org provides news on cancer research. This section, which includes profiles on medicines that may or not be cancer-related is in beta form. If things run smoothly we will be releasing a new format late in the summer of 2006.

| Pharmacology | Cefadroxil, a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, is used to treat urinary tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis. | ||
| Mechanism Of Action | Like all beta-lactam antibiotics, cefadroxil binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, causing the inhibition of the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes such as autolysins; it is possible that cefadroxil interferes with an autolysin inhibitor. | ||

| Interactions |
-->Interactions for Cefadroxil: Drug/Laboratory Test Interactions Positive direct Coombsí tests have been reported during treatment with the cephalosporin antibiotics. In hematologic studies or in transfusion cross-matching procedures when anti-globulin tests are performed on the minor side or in Coombsí testing of newborns whose mothers have received cephalosporin antibiotics before parturition, it should be recognized that a positive Coombsí test may be due to the drug. | ||
